Departing from Helsingborg
A stylish waterfront city with royal gardens and one of Scandinavia’s shortest international ferry crossings
Helsingborg faces Denmark across one of the narrowest parts of the Øresund, giving the city a strong cross-border character. Ferries remain a visible part of everyday life despite the road and rail bridge further south.
Kärnan, the surviving medieval tower above the centre, is Helsingborg’s defining landmark. The terraces and steps around it provide excellent views over the rooftops and across the water to Helsingør.
North of the centre, Sofiero Palace and Gardens are especially rewarding in the warmer months, while Fredriksdal open-air museum adds historic buildings, gardens and cultural displays.
The waterfront has been extensively renewed with promenades, bathing areas, restaurants and modern architecture, making it easy to combine sightseeing with time beside the sea.
ØRESUNDSLINJEN runs the Helsingborg–Helsingør ferry around the clock, with the crossing taking about 20 minutes and departures as often as every 20 minutes for much of the day.
Use the terminal or pier named on your Øresundslinjen confirmation. The published departure is the sailing time; check-in and vehicle acceptance close earlier. If reaching Helsingborg by train or bus, allow for the transfer from the station to the harbour and for luggage handling.
