This connection appears in Orkney Ferries’ route selector for Flotta and Longhope. Island calls depend on the sailing pattern, and a listed connection should be checked against the calendar for the intended day.
Check whether the result is a direct call or part of a multi-island sailing. Allow a separate connection margin if continuing to the Scottish mainland.
This journey starts at Flotta (Orkney) and finishes at Longhope (South Walls, Orkney). Use the route in this direction when checking departure times; the return guide has the opposite boarding point.
Longhope to Flotta ferry guide covers the opposite departure port, arrival arrangements and onward connections.
Flotta’s ferry links cross Scapa Flow. Check the selected island calls and vehicle arrangements.
Before setting off for Flotta, check the operator’s departure pier and the day’s service notice. Leave enough time to reach the boarding area with your luggage or vehicle.
Longhope lies on South Walls, connected to Hoy by causeway. Use the exact South Isles sailing information rather than assuming every boat calls here.
Plan your onward journey from the landing point at Longhope. If someone is collecting you, agree the pier and allow time to disembark; book any onward transport before relying on a tight connection.
Orkney’s council-owned network connects the islands from Kirkwall, Tingwall, Houton and Stromness. It is separate from NorthLink and Pentland services across to mainland Scotland.
Route planning starts with the departure harbour. North Isles sailings commonly use Kirkwall; Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre use Tingwall; South Isles routes use Houton; Graemsay and Moaness connections use Stromness. A ticket to Orkney from mainland Scotland does not include an onward island crossing.
Multi-island workings vary by weekday, season and vessel refit period. An operator route selector listing a pair does not mean there is a direct sailing every day. Read the dated sailing and its intermediate calls before organising an island stay.
Domestic travel still has operator rules: names, any required identification, vehicle size and assistance arrangements must match the booking. If this sailing connects with a second ferry, check whether the tickets protect the connection. Allow a margin before an infrequent island bus or the last return boat.
Travel arrangements for Flotta to Longhope: Vehicle availability depends on selected sailing. Check the operator’s current sailing information before making onward bookings.
For vehicle travel, give the full length and height, including trailers, roof loads and rear cycle racks. Ask whether the chosen service takes advance reservations or uses a queue at the slipway. Walk-on passengers should check the boarding point and onward transport separately.
Use the operator’s published fare table or dated booking quote to check single and return tickets, concessions and payment arrangements. Check the final return sailing before planning a day trip; seasonal or weather-related changes may affect the last departure.
