The former summer Clyde crossing is not a bookable shortcut for 2026 or 2027. CalMac confirmed on 6 October 2026 that the service will also not operate in 2027. Use the A83 road route to Kintyre or plan a separate multi-stage island journey.

Campbeltown is reached by road along the Kintyre peninsula when the former seasonal Clyde ferry is unavailable. The town is not served by an active Ardrossan ferry in 2026 or 2027.

Caledonian MacBrayne — almost universally known as CalMac — is not a single long-distance ferry route but a dense network of mainland-to-island and island-to-island services. The operator describes itself as the largest ferry company in the United Kingdom, with 35 vessels serving more than 50 destinations across around 200 miles of Scotland’s west coast. For visitors, that means routes to famous islands such as Arran, Mull, Islay, Skye, Harris, Lewis, Barra and the Uists.
