Discover Gdynia

Modernist architecture, a lively seafront and one of Poland’s principal passenger-ferry links to Sweden

Gdynia is the youngest of the three main Tricity centres and feels very different from historic Gdańsk. Its broad avenues, white modernist buildings and seafront grew rapidly with Poland’s interwar maritime ambitions.

Kościuszki Square and the South Pier form the visitor heart of the city, with museum ships, the aquarium, marinas and easy access to the seaside boulevard.

Further south, Orłowo combines a wooden pier, fishing boats and the distinctive cliff, while Kamienna Góra gives an elevated view over the centre and harbour.

The Emigration Museum, housed in the former Marine Station, adds an important historical dimension by telling the story of Polish migration through a building directly connected with the port.

For ferry travellers, Stena Line operates the established Gdynia–Karlskrona route with day and overnight departures, making the city one of Poland’s most useful passenger gateways to Sweden.

Ferries arriving in Gdynia

Reaching the harbour and checking in

Gdynia’s modern Public Ferry Terminal handles Stena Line’s Sweden route. It is within the wider Tricity transport area and links by road and public transport towards Gdańsk and Sopot.

Pin the precise ferry terminal before travelling to Gdynia. Some towns have separate passenger quays, vehicle terminals and excursion-boat landings. The operator’s address on your confirmation is more useful than a town-centre map pin.

For a car journey, leave a margin for the final approach, queueing and check-in. Without a car, confirm the last part of the journey from the railway station or bus stop. A short map distance may involve port roads or areas closed to pedestrians; use a confirmed transfer or walking route.

Keep your booking reference and required documents accessible. If you need step-free boarding, help with luggage or space for a bicycle, arrange it before the day of travel. Small piers and large vehicle terminals can offer very different facilities.

Building Gdynia into a wider journey

Plan each sea leg as a separate part of the trip. Check the arrival port, transfer distance, vehicle restrictions and the time before the next sailing. A ticket sold by one company or booking provider does not automatically create a protected connection with another.

Check your arrival time against accommodation check-in and the next transport service. If this is an island stay, organise the return ferry before fixing a mainland flight or a long-distance train. The outward and return ports do not have to be the same, but separate tickets can have different conditions.
